Kore Texts Kolloquium

When, and in what order?

  1. A few questions...do we want to start from the beginning with the Storey-type texts or are we assuming everyone has read those (by some point) and instead concentrate on tricky texts from the reader and some of the more interesting/challenging books.

Also are we going to pick some interesting "self-chosen" texts that we all study (like post colonial, feminist etc texts) or just stick to the required and optional texts in the list?

  2. I think we don't need to discuss the Introduction to CS by Storey - that book is pretty self-explanatory. It's basically a study guide to the reader. I guess those who want to work together should decide what texts they want to read a) together - the "big texts" the obligatory and challenging ones and b) the ones that might be of a more personal interest over the class break and then decide on the order in which the group would like to tackle those.

For the meetings in general, I think a bi-weekly meeting, possibly in the mornings, would be optimal and not (!) immediately before our lovely Stammtisch. Otherwise we would possibly end up sitting there, rushing through the texts in order to get done with it as quickly as possible... I'd like to keep those two meetings separated. But that's just my 2 cents.

  3. 1) About discussing the texts:
I agree with Chris about skipping Storey's Introduction... cause I think it's pretty basic stuff. But still, I think we should somehow agree (rather in a face-to-face meeting) on which texts/books we wanna talk about cause as Hochbruck said, he does not expect us to read the books from cover to cover... And maybe go step by step (like NKOTB in the 90's) as the semester goes forward and not try to agree on everything at once. Some sort of a schedual we do need, that's for sure, but maybe not plan the whole semester right from the start...

    2) About the meeting time:
I'm also agreeing with Christoph here. Rather some morning during the week (but maybe not at 8 o'clock if possible ;) When the semester begins and we all know our seminar & vorlesung-schedules for the week I can set up a Doodle-questionnaire where everyone can fill in the times they prefer/have free and then we can vote on the meeting-time.

  4. In terms of the "choice" texts that we can find ourselves I think we should all here write suggestions of texts we would consider (or want to) read or recommend to others. For instance what Vicki was saying about post-80s theorists, postcolonial theorists etc...just so we get an idea of what is actually out there! Even things in terms of feminism, whatever is interesting!
