  1. It's interesting to compare the fact that we associate certain behaviours and reactions with Aspergers syndrome but if a person were simply to say "I have really bad social skills and don't know how to use facial expressions" we would find it hard to believe them, until they say "I have aspergers" and then you go OH, Okay. Interesting that any behaviour that deviates from the normal needs to have a "label" to define it against "normal".

  2. the whole normal thing is so subjective here, this woman is being heaped with social capital, I dont know if she is not more normal then most...in a sense she subverts/deconstructs the concept but I think its amazing that she actually uses barthes to unlock the world.

  3. I guess there are plenty of people out there too who don't WANT to be "neurotypical" and use their abnormality to their advantage. Like how she does with her art. But I agree that she seems to have plenty of resources. She won't say she's got aspergers when applying for a job, which is understandable, but in other parts of society she can use the "aspergers" excuse to her advantage. SO i think we all possess different degrees of normality which we suppress or emphasise depending on the social context.
